Melissa Chretien, BS, RN, OCN, LMT, CLT, BCTMB, S4OM
Melissa is a graduate of the Downeast School of Massage and is a Licensed Massage Therapist practicing in Bath, Maine. She is Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and is a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association. She is committed to lifelong education and has pursued numerous hours of continuing education with leaders and experts in the fields of massage, bodywork, nursing, allied health, and integrative therapies in order to bring the best therapeutic techniques to her clients. Some of her specialized training is in oncology massage, craniosacral therapy, manual lymphatic drainage and complete decongestive therapy, polarity therapy, therapeutic touch, aromatherapy, reflexology, and reiki.
In addition to massage therapy, Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with minors in Biology and Holistic and Integrative Health from the University of Southern Maine (Magna cum Laude) and an Associate of Science in Nursing from the University of Maine, Augusta (Summa cum Laude). Melissa has studied graduate work for Master of Public Health at A. T. Still University in Kirskville Missouri and is currently completing a Bachelors in Nursing from St. Joseph's College in Standish Maine. She is a practicing Registered Nurse in oncology and has utilized massage with her cancer patients noting decreased pain and anxiety, increased relaxation, and improved quality of life. She is certified as an Oncology Certified Nurse by the Oncology Nursing Society and the Oncology Nurses Credentialing Center and is a certified chemotherapy and biotherapy provider. In addition, she is a Preferred Provider with the Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM). Her nursing practice is in a busy oncology/hematology office and infusion center that provides specialized chemotherapy and supportive treatments to those with cancer or blood disorders. She has advanced training in nurse coaching, tobacco cessation, and wellness promotion. Melissa also completed an intensive program in lymphedmea management with the world renown Klose Training Group. She is credentialed as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist performing manual lymphatic drainage and complete decongestive therapy. She has incorporated this new skill into her nursing role with cancer patients.
Prior to her nursing career, Melissa spent six years in the United States Air Force/Air National Guard as an EMT/medic and two years in the Air Force Reserves. Melissa has been privileged to provide therapeutic massage to fellow servicemembers during deployments which helped decrease stress and enhance wellbeing. A special focus of Melissa's massage practice is devoted to working with Veterans, especially those suffering with PTSD.
Melissa believes that the body has an amazing ability to heal itself given the right tools. Equipped with a variety of "tools in the tool belt", Melissa is sure to find a technique that is suitable for you whether that is massage, energy work, aromatherapy, or health coaching. She is passionate about finding what resonates with each person and works collaboratively to empower you to find your best self. She feels that massage or bodywork is one way to listen to the needs of the individual and can help facilitate profound change paving the way toward wellness.
